Excellent managers are in business to help their business succeed - - and they know that the way to do this is to help those around them succeed through coaching.  Traditionally, employees looked to their supervisors for direction, decision making and control.  In today’s more fluid and less hierarchical working environment, this is not enough.  To remain competitive, organization need to harness the creative and synergistic capacity of all their employees, not just the ones in leadership positions, through coaching.
Coaching is a technique that organization has adopted and formalized as a way to motivate employees to superior performance.  It is a means for managers to provide their employees with guidance, insight and encouragement through frequent interactions in order to improve their work performance.  It is designed to strengthen and enhance learning through a continual day-to-day process that goes beyond the once-a-year performance appraisal system. 

This interactive workshop style training program intends to equip you with this crucial skill and process that helps you to focus your energy on helping others improve their work performance and achieve goals.



At the end of the course, participants will be able to...

  • Explain the purpose, benefits and importance of coaching at the workplace.
  • Differentiate between Coaching, Counseling, Mentoring and Teaching
  • Identify with the characteristics of effective coaches
  • Set S.M.A.R.T goals that relates to organizational goals and clearly communicate it to the employees what you expect from them
  • Practice these skills:
     - Attentive Listening
     - ‘Asking Vs Telling’ & ‘Thought Transmission’ communications
     - Coaching Analysis
  • Apply the ‘G.R.O.W’ process and ‘Five Steps Coaching Technique’ in coaching their employees.
  • Identify best practices for frequently encountered coaching situations.

BEFORE COACHING - - Foundation of Coaching:

    • Situational Leadership - - When do we do coaching?
    • Effective coaching behaviors
    • Skill1:  Setting effective (S.M.A.R.T) goals
    • Skill 2: Active Listening
    • Asking Vs Telling.
    • Skill 3: Communication: “Thought Transmission”
    • Skill 4: Coaching Analysis

DURING COACHING - - Process of Coaching:

    • Using G.R.O.W process:
      • Goal - clarification of goals
      • Reality – understanding the present situation
      • Options – exploring possibilities and alternatives to move forward.
      • Wrap-Up – deciding which options to take and when it will be done
    • Skill 5: Five Steps Coaching Technique
    • Exercise: Role-play using the Five Steps Coaching Technique


    • Setting up review session.
    • Frequently Encountered Coaching Situations:
      • How do I start and end a coaching session?
      • How do I know what questions to ask?
      • How do I build trust?
      • How do I help coachee to make decisions?
    • Other considerations in Coaching.


    • Action planning exercises
    • 1-to-1 coaching practice sessions
    • Case studies and group discussions
    • Video own role-play and get feedback from coaching partner

**Special Note: Workshop style coaching & feedback sessions are time-consuming activities. Therefore, to be effective, the class size for this course is limited to a maximum of 14 participants per-class.
